Emo – the genre that never was: this ain’t the summer of love – ep02

Before emo, there was another genre heavily influenced by punk – grunge. Grunge and emo have crossed paths multiple times, with Hüsker Dü’s Zen Arcade influencing both genres, Soundgarden being signed to Black Flag’s (hc punk band important for both genres) SST label and Sunny Day Real Estate being signed to Sub Pop. This episode is one of two planned episodes on grunge. In the first one we’ll talk about how grunge became grunge. The second one will be devoted to grunge’s mainstream explosion and its’ importance for emo’s mainstream breakthrough a decade later.
