Hey, dreamer: #57 Marianne & Kasia Wąsowska
[ENG] Marianne and Katarzyna Wąsowska are photographers, cousins and co-creators of “Waiting for the snow” – a multi-layered project investigating the history of Polish mass migration to South America (Brazil and Argentina). In the conversation we focus on the photobook, a fruit of interviewees’ 10-year labour, published by Yogurt Editions. We look at the phenomenon through multiple lenses: from ecstatic journey to the unknown to creation of modern, industrial societies and colonial policies. We discuss how Polish traditions, language and memories has been preserved and transformed through centuries literally on the opposite site of the globe. Slowly unravelling the richness of the stories, we talk about the special role of the image in the process of identity forming. How did the mass migration start back in XIXth century? What photographic treasures have been found?
