OHNE ENDE

A radio play based on the book OHNE ENDE (Dobromiła Dobro, Warsaw, 2025), dedicated to the life and work of Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore. OHNE ENDE is a narrative about the artistic and clandestine lives of two exceptional artists – partners in work and life – who lived in the Rocquaise house on the island of Jersey from the second half of the 1930s. Their daily lives intertwined with their creative activities: writing, photography, working on performances, and producing and distributing clandestine materials. After years of political involvement, they were exposed, imprisoned, and then sentenced to death. The book as well as the radio play raises questions about the motivations, mutual support, hierarchy of values, and forms of expression of love in this extraordinary relationship.

Dobromiła Dobro: In writing Lucy and Suzanne’s story, I drew on archival notes, photographs, drawings, letters, and texts by Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore, which have been digitized and made available online in the Jersey Heritage archive at: https://catalogue.jerseyheritage.org/claude-cahun/. I supported my story with personal notes from my stay on the island of Jersey, in St. Brelade’s Bay, which I took between March 24-30, 2025.
