Mantra is concept started in Prague and Bratislava which celebrates art in all its forms by brining it closer to people such as combining art installations in unconventional places accessible to everyone with musical performance. This is a recording of a DJ set from the launch event in OTTO, Bratislava from early June. It is full of joyful boogie, funk and jazz from Brazil, Africa, Balearics and more.

#7: Boogiebusters

For this month&#8217;s edition of Unspeakable Joy I&#8217;ve invited from Brazil, the Curitiba&#8217;s finest: Gabriel Badwan and Fernando Tortelli aka the HMTW DJs who are behind Curitiba party label Hometown, constantly on the search for rare grooves and gems of the 80s and 90s boogie, funk, balearic house, zouk and more. Their parties became a staple in town, having already invited names such s Millos Kaiser and Eternal Love, and preparing for a party with Mr Mendel in June. The 60 minute set is a peek into their selection.

The HMTW DJs are constanly on the search for rare grooves of the 80s and 90s world music.

Hi, call me Bali. I am a DJ and Sound Designer from Bratislava and I love to unite people under one 
rhythm. Driven by a feeling, experienced as a young student on a dancefloor in Glasgow, I look for 
rare grooves of the past and present. Rooted in vintage House music, I delight in reviving the sound 
of the 90s Chicago and NYCs Paradise Garage parties. Simple, yet thrilling rhythms intertwined with 
lush synthy basslines and vocal samples cultivate lightness of being and Unspeakable Joy.

Grzebał w śmietnikach, jak mieszkał na skłocie w Berlinie i to upodobanie do porzuconych przedmiotów mu zostało. W 2015 r., po zakończeniu studiów genderowych i teatralnych, założył projekt artystyczny Wiersze Na Bruku, żeby promować poezję, wystawiać spektakle i zajmować się eksploracją miejską i upcyklingiem.

The Unspeakable Joy is a concept for a moment when language fails to communicate a feeling of joy that one experiences. Throughout the time, I have gathered a whole spectrum of grooves and rhythms, which cultivate lightness of being and ignite the Unspeakable Joy within me. The selection goes from Bossa Nova, Boogie and Acid Jazz to Italo Disco, 90s Chicago and NYC House. Occasionally, you will hear my voice, which some people say has meditative properties, briefly touching on the stories of the artists included in my mix.
